Pros & Cons
Pros & Cons
- The Schwalbe Aerothan Road tube is the ultimate lightweight inner tube (only 50 grams) for your road bike.
- The aluminium valve increases durability and compatibility.
- The inner tube is compatible with wider road tyres: widths up to 32 mm.
- Thanks to the elasticity of the material, the Aerothan is highly puncture and snakebite resistant.
- The Aerothan tube is much smaller than a butyl inner tube - an ideal size for a back pocket or saddle bag!
- Please note: The Aerothan Road cannot be inflated outside the tyre (only up to 0.3 bar) due to the risk of deformation.

The Schwalbe Aerothan redefines the inner tube! By using an entirely new type of plastic, Schwalbe has managed to bring together the most opposite properties of an inner tube: low rolling resistance, low weight and high puncture resistance. Thus, Aerothan inner tubes offer both the puncture resistance of butyl inner tubes and the rolling resistance and weight of latex inner tubes.
The Schwalbe Aerothan Road has been specially developed for use on road bikes, where every second and every gram counts. It is compatible with wider road bike tyres, up to 32 mm widths. With two Aerothan Road inner tubes, you can easily save 100 grams compared to butyl inner tubes without reducing puncture resistance. Plus, in extreme conditions the Aerothan Road is also highly reliable.
Compact size
Not only is the Aerothan Road considerably lighter than comparable butyl inner tubes, it is also much more compact because the material is thinner than butyl. This makes the Aerothan easy to carry as a spare tube in a saddle bag or jersey pocket. If you want to take even less with you on the road, you can also repair the Aerothan en route using Schwalbe's Glueless Patches, which you simply stick onto the Aerothan without sanding. Before applying one, make sure the inner tube is clean.
Aluminium valve
To increase durability, the valves in the Aerothan inner tubes are now made of aluminium. The valve has a removable valve core to ensure compatibility with Schwalbe Clik valves.
Thermoplastic polyurethane: Aerothan
Schwalbe has collaborated with BASF to completely revise the Aerothan to meet all the specific requirements of an inner tube. For example, the thermoplastic polyurethane material now has excellent heat resistance, and its elasticity and durability ensure excellent puncture resistance. If attacked by sharp objects, the Aerothan will stretch along thanks to its high resilience and unique tensile strength, greatly reducing the risk of pinch flats. Another advantage of the Aerothan is that it cannot burst while cycling. This means you will never suddenly lose control of your bike due to the air escaping from your tyre all at once. The gradual deflation of the Aerothan allows you to come to a stop safely.
